I have watched the video ”Should New Testament Believers Keep the Old Testament Law”. Please explain Acts 13:38-39. Special attention to ALL the Laws of Moses in verse 39. Regards.

I am wondering if this is a serious question. If it is just an argument then nothing is to be gained by further investigation.

If it is a serious question then consider this .Salvation just gets you into the Kingdom of God. Eliminating sin is a lifelong process of growing more like God. The problem lies with what we assume the law was ment to accomplish. Was abraham saved by following the law? no he was saved by faith in messiahs coming even though he died before Christ was born. He was made perfect (mature) by the law which showed him how to relate to his fellow man and how to worship his God.

those who like to say Paul told us we are free from the law forget that Paul also said

Rom_7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law:

So if the law shows us what sin is, how can it have passed away? Do we no longer need to be able to recognize sin when it is standing in front of us?

Today there are people who believe they are saved because they go to church. This is nothing new, In Pauls day there were people who thought they were Gods people because they kept every fine point of the law that they liked and ignored the rest. Its no different today, Gods people have simply chosen a different set of scriptures to ignore. I can’t ignore scripture just because it isn’t convenient in my culture or I would rather it said something different. Either the bible is the word of God and should be followed or it isn’t. Paul did not have dual personality disorder. He wasn’t saying don’t keep the law, but keep the law.

      Consider Acts 21.
Paul has come back to Jerusalem and is meeting with James and the elders of the church. The elders have to deal with a rumor that has been circulating about Paul. Vs 21 says that the Jewish believers have been told that Paul teaches against the Law. The elders solution was not to tell the people that Paul kept the law but to show them. He was to go to the Temple with men who had a vow and perform what was required by the law which he did.

Act 15:20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
Act 15:21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

So the gentiles were to come out of their culture where idols were everywhere, stay away from the temple prostitutes, eat what God called food, it had to be slaughtered correctly with the blood drained properly and they were to be in the synagoges listening to Moses.

It sounds like they were going to be hearing the law

And Acts 13:39, Paul, a Jewish Scholar, was reminding his fellow Jews of their history. He was also reminding them that the law which could point out the sin couldn’t forgive it, only Messiah could do that

The obscurity of Paul’s preaching is God’s method of separating the sheep from the goats(Isa.30.28. Those who use that obscurity to justify breaking God’s eternal commandments will not be recognized as his children in the final count (Matt.7.21-23, 25.31-33).
The new covenant was the same that was promised in the O T, and it was that God would write his laws in our minds and hearts, not change them(Ez.36.27); Ps.104.30 with John 6.63, Jesus brought us that Spirit in the form of words that we are to “engraft with meekness to the saving of out souls”(Jas.1.21).

More than any other proof, Paul, the rest of the Apostles and all early converts kept the original Feasts and Sabbath. The part that the church has not realized so far, is that where keeping the commandments will not make us righteous, neither will breaking them. When we lovingly seek God through his word, he writes his laws in our hearts and minds, and our nature is changed. We do not think that anything we do can make us righteous, but our own conscience guides us away from the things that the law makes known are not the ways of life. Jesus did not come to destroy the law, he redeemed us from the curse of the law(Matt.5.17-19, Gal.3.12)
