Do Christians Need To Follow The Old Testament?

by on September 08, 2013

This is a question a Christian radio hosts asked me when I was interviewed on his radio show. Do you agree with my reply? How would you have answered the question?

I like what you have to say, but what do you do with Romans 7 ? according to this I am dead to the law. Paul is speaking to Jewish Believers in Rome.

1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? 2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. 4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. 6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

You are a very kind brother in the Lord and I am glad that I came to your website.

    In His friendship and love,

    John

Hey John, that’s very eye opening point you’ve made. I too love this passage in Romans 7. My understanding of the law in the old Testament is the Ten Commandments. If it were not to be observed in today’s walk with the Most High, which one do we need not to observed? In Revelation 11:19 Said: And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: Which one of them from the old covenant Yahushua removed? Don’t be confused the law with the festivals.
most of us belivers are doing the law in the old covenant except when it came to the seventh day which start from evening to evening friday at 6pm to Saturday at 6pm.
Note: We read throughout the bible that when a king sign a decree no one including the king can revoke it, how much more then to the Most High? When the Most High said something he does not take it back because he doesn’t make mistakes. The covenants was writen by His own finger on a stone tablet so that it can’t be erased or altered.
May the Peace of Yahweh Eylohim throught Yahshua the Meshayah be with you!

Well, the 10 commandments are found in the OT so the answer is yes, at least as far as that is concerned. But do we need to follow all of the Torah? Absolutely not. Sacrifices were done away with when Messiah became the ultimate sacrifice.

you are in correct Kevin, The Bible says we are to keep every commandment we can. It is sin if we don’t. No where in the Bible does it say we don’t have to keep the commandments
